It is relatively easy to win the game with the most balanced character Axel, but it gets lot harder if you try characters such as Skate or Max, since they are not as all-around suited against different opponents. The graphics have aged well and stilll feel fresh. The special moves also drain your health away so you cannot just spam them in hope for an easier win. You need to press buttons in a certain order to execute them. They also have their special moves and combos. The difficulty is nicely balanced, the music is great, the level design still looks really good if you are into some cyberpunk style.Īll 4 characters have different strengths which are noticeable when you try them. The reason is simple: Although, there is nothing that special or unique in Streets of Rage 2, it has everything that makes beat ‘em up games enjoyable. The game was a big success and is still regarded as one of the best beat ‘em ups of all time. What better way to do it than beating up everyone that gets into your way?īack in the 90’s everyone had a cool name. The heroes of the game, the three playable characters, Axel Stone, Blaze, Eddie “Skate” Hunter and Max Thunder must save their friend and Skate’s brother Adam Hunter from the evil Mr. X from the first game is back and he is thirsty for revenge.
Streets of Rage 2 does not differ from that, but it is actually a gem in the pool of thousands of beat ‘em up games.Īs it can be guessed from the game’s name, this is the second part of the series. At the time there were many beat ‘em up games published with different kinds of themes but the basic idea was always the same: fight your way through the enemies and defeat the final boss.
It was about time someone got to do it!īug: In the GG boat stage, you let the police enabled.Streets of Rage 2 is a classic beat ‘em up game published in the middle of the 90’s console war between Sega and Nintendo. The use of Rudra was a good idea as to replace Predator.Īlso nice cameo with the Mr.X lover in the GG path which we found out about thanks to Yuzo's sister interview!Īll in all, if we except the GG OST which to me sounded slowed down, those are respectful recreations of the subpar MS/GG versions of SOR2. Other than that, I absolutely love the clever mash-ups for the boss themes in the Master System path!Īlso there's been a lot of efforts put into the ambient effects!Įnnemywise, I believe you took care of staying true to the original placement in both MS/GG games? Anyway, it was pretty good to me! Musicwise, I think the soundtrack choice was fitting for both the Master System and Game Gear paths, though I wonder, what's with the use of 50Hz/slowed down Game Gear OST? Mad props for the menu theme, the Alien Bridge and the Game Gear stage 6 elevator with its shadow effect!
STREETS OF RAGE 2 GAME GEAR WINDOWS
Overall you did a great use of many SORmaker features, notably the windows reflections and transparent layers! As well as taking care of using the same palettes for the megadrives stages that were edited for the master system/Game gear paths. The assets are now better and almost are on par with the megadrive graphic quality while still having that 8 bit touch. I think you said you wanted to rerender the original assets without making things too pretty and I think you did a great job at balancing this! Graphically, this is a top-notch work, definitely! That is until you announced a remake of both the Game Gear and Master System versions which I always found interesting because they had some uniques features compared to the Megadrive versions.
STREETS OF RAGE 2 GAME GEAR MODS
Thing is I never played any of the mods you personnaly made before because recreations of the original SOR games are not something I'm looking for. So I finally got to play this mod, twice.
